Smoking

Cigarette smoking causes 1 out of every 5 deaths in the US. It is the most important preventable cause of premature death. Furthermore, it poses an even greater risk for people with diabetes. When most people think of death from cigarette smoking, they think of lung cancer. But even more importantly, cigarette smoking greatly increases cardiovascular disease — heart attacks and strokes. Since people who have diabetes have a greater risk for CVD than other people, it is very important that you don’t smoke.
